Our convertible boat "The Asterix" takes us at
10:00 am to our adventure. And in 30 minutes north of Isla Mujeres
lies the enchanted island of Contoy. Mean while enjoy a continental
breakfast (juice, coffee and sweet rolls) and your favorite drink
(bar open all day). Enjoy the ride in an unforgettable experience
crossing the majestic Caribbean sea. This virgin island barely 5.2
mi. long was declared national wild life reserve in 1961. The island
is practically deserted, scarcity of fresh water has discouraged
habitation by man. But several sheltered salt water lagoons
surrounded by mangrove and palms, make it the most important natural
refugee for birds. large colonies of brown pelicans, pink spatulas,
swallows, ibis and occasionally flock of flamingos.
Fine sandy beaches are also an
important breeding environment for birds and several species of sea
turtles, such as, green turtle, white turtle, carey (hawksbill) and
the laud. Contoy is situated in the beginning of the 2nd
largest coral reef chain in the world. Place where we snorkel
(snorkel equipment not included). After enjoy a delicious lunch
buffet on the boat. Returns at 5:00 pm.
RECOMMENDED ATTIRE:
Light sport wear, bathing suite,
towel, comfortable shoes , camera, hat and the snorkel equipment
(also available for rent on the boat)
Note: there is a federal charge
of $5.00 usd extra per person to pay at the reserve for
whoever wants to visit it; that you have to pay at the reserve.
